A Homeschooling post................

Please check out Daisy's recent post on homeschooling, in her blog 'A Montessori Journey'....you'll find the link on the right of my blog....................

Daisy homeschools not only her own children but a few others too............and follows mainly a Montessori approach...which she discusses at length (and with pictures) on her blog for people like me who are fairly ignorant of Montessori theory.................

Her recent post is about skeptics of homeschooling and is an interesting read :)

See you tomorrow Daisy :)

Summer is drawing to a close.....

The weather is still glorious during the day.....high 20's and tomorrow may hit 30c again........but the evenings are chilly and the sun is setting so much earlier.......

The trees are slowly but surely turning to the most beautiful shades of gold and rust........the geese can be heard saying goodbye as they fly overhead on their journey south.

Our hummingbirds left well overa week ago......they were with us for such a brief time....next year we will be better prepared from May onwards with our sugar syrup......I hope we helped nourish them for their long trip.

Some homeschooling friends of ours in Texas are watching out for them...the hummingbirds stop in their yard for a few weeks on their way even further south for winter.........isn't that amazing? They left here ten days ago and will arrive in Texas around now...................such tiny tiny birds......with such strength.........and stamina.......I can't WAIT to see them again next year...and hear the hum of their wings :)

Summer 2006 has been wonderful! Thanks to homeschooling it has been a lovely LONG and fun summer......we have been able to enjoy every moment since the first warm day...and we have experienced soooooo much...from the arrival of our chicks and their first eggs, to watching Rosie developing her personality alongside her sister Amber........watching our acreage transform from an icy snow covered landscape to a land filled with wildlife and plants we had never seen before........................we have met new friends who have taught us so much...............and have brought so much to our lives..........

Chris has begun his volunteering at the museum and has worked at the library this summer too............Lloyd has enjoyed his job and is taking on more and more projects there.......Lloyd ahs also FINALLY started spending some money on himself and enjoying it after working so hard!!!...............Laurence has found his love of quading and has really come into his own at the homeschool group when Chris hasn't been there..........

Susannah has loved all the edible plants we have grown and has found a love of cooking with them.....I know she has great plans for our vegetable garden next year and wants to focus on baking different breads this Fall.......................Susie also learnt to swim well this summer................Abigail has developed a huge interest in math and just adores numbers...........she is writing a fair bit now and still loves to do 'schoolwork'...................Sam is such an outdoors boy and has thrived from being outside so much....I am so glad we moved here last year and the children have all this land to enjoy.......animals to care for.....trees to climb...........space to run...........................

Chris had two paid jobs this summer........dog sitting for neighbours................he earnt $170..............so is very happy :)

The weather this summer has been amazing! We've been so lucky........and we've managed to make the most of it.......many trips to the splashpark, Fort Edmonton, the zoo, swimming in our own pool, playdates at the park, trips to the lake, and many many many family days just spent playing here :)

And we still have two big trips to look forward to :)

I am not normally a summer person........I prefer Spring and Fall........but this year, well, summer has been GREAT! I hope your summer has been a good one too :)

Meet Fred................

Fred and his millions of brothers and sisters are visiting with us for a few weeks :)
The children love catching them and then touching their butts to make them hop away :)

Busy bee takes a break..............

A bee enjoys a late afternoon snack on my sunflower.............

Sunday......planning day....

Like many homeschooling parents....I'm feeling in the mood to organize, plan and prepare......even as unschoolers I feel we need to plan in some ways.........at the end of the last 'school year' I decluttered and filed away all of the past years 'work' and tidied the homeschool shelves ready to begin anew at some point.........many homeschoolers seem to use Sunday as their day to prepare............

This morning I have gone through my files, emptied them of anything to do with our old school board and anything from those school boards I was considering but have chosen against.....I finally photocopied the documents I needed and have the envelope ready to go to our new school board to register........we will send this registered tomorrow..........

Yesterday I ordered our Math U See program.....Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon.....along with the necessary extras to go with it.........soon I will order the Rosetta Stone Spanish......we also have to take a trip to Scholars Choice and I am hoping to make it to '4 Your Mind' the homeschooling store run by a homeschooling friend :) - they are having another open house this week.......

I plan to empty the craft cupboards today too and throw as much as I can into the dumpster while its here......although its pretty full already! We have to rent another in the Spring.........
