This boy loves diggers and dirt!

September :)

I've been reading a lot lately on blogs etc about how September is the new January - and how many people use it as a new start for things like resolutions etc....its a good time to re-evaluate and make changes....

I think this is very true and I know I see the new school year (whether that means school or homeschool). I know I certainly see each new school year as a new beginning - probably more so than in January - ande I think its so much easier to make new starts at the end of summer when we are surrounded by beautiful Fall colours rather than in the msierable short dark days of January!

Happy New Year everyone!

Friends...

Laurence cycled to school on Tuesday and arrived back after school with several friends - they all piled onto the trampoline where they sat and chatted and ate snacks for ages :)

Signs of Fall on our road......

Breakfast with Val in Edmonton!

On Wednesday Val had to take her car down to 75th St to have it serviced, so I picked her up from the dealership and we went out for breakfast. It was funny because I pulled onto the dealership forecourt and a guy comes running out of the building waving at me. It was a Dodge dealership and I drive a Ford so I knew he wasn't waving at me - so I ignored him and drove around looking for a space - then I see him waving at me again and signalling to a space right by the front doors! So I drive in and then I see he has Vals little guys car seat with him! PHEW!!!! It was funny but what great service (although I later learned he made a rude joke about me driving a Ford lol!)

As we were on 75th, we went to Lumberjacks for breakfast - the coffee was really good and I was extravagant and ordered waffles!!!! (lol) I had waffles with apple cinnamon and they were HEAVENLY!!! Thank you for breakfast Val :)

After that, we headed back to Vals house and were busy chatting but I was followed by a cop car almost the entire way!!! I was so paranoid especially as I had to drive through all the weird construction site on Hwy 14. I finally chickened out and turned onto a side road and luckily the cop car didn't follow me.....then I had to make an emergency stop at the Esso because I was BURSTING for the bathroom because of all the coffee I had drunk!

We finally made it back to vals house - I'm sorry if I was distracted on the drive home Val - what with the cop car and my exploding bladder!

WE got to Vals house and she took me through her very posh barn to meet Salt and Shadow, her sheep! Very cute!!

Inside for coffee and to chat even more, and then I had to head home! After lunch I went downtown with Lloyd and Parker as Lloyd ended up getting called into work for something. It was an excuse to go to Purdys anyway :)

Thursday we went to South Ed Common as Parker wanted to go to the Tommy store for a few things....I took Sam to Dollarama and got a few stocking fillers and some Halloween crafts.....then in the evening Lloyd and Parker took Laurie to his first Air Cadets meeting.

Tuesday - I can't remember much about Tuesday - we went to Toys R Us...we had lunch at the Olive Garden.....not sure what else we did......but I do remember how amazing the Pumpkin Cheesecake at The Olive Garden is - go get some while its there!!!

My swap arrived...

I just took part ina 'summer themed' swap with the girls at Scrappers Haven. Rebecca kindly sent me a big envelope foull of treats to scrapbook with :) It was such a wonderful surprise to get in the mail from her :) She went way beyond what she had to send so I am very very grateful :) Thanks Rebecca.

A bit of Karate Kid action.....

The guys try to kick down a fence by the old barn :)

more gorgeous weather!

After a blip on Wednesday when it was cold, the weather is back to being gorgeous! 24c today...and the next few days are set to be lovely too - so we are in for a hot and sunny weekend :)

Yesterday we got the 3rd series of Greys Anatomy on dvd but I don't think we will start watching it until the weather changes as it seems crazy to waste these lovely evenings inside in front of the tv when we can be outside...no doubt there will be plenty of cold nights in the next few months for us to stay inside!

They were saying on LP the other day that we were due for a La Nina winter - much longer and colder than normal - yet others disagree and say the Farmers Almanac (always right lol!) says we are due for a shorter and warmer winter!

I am definitely hoping the Almanac is right!

Nice surprise!

Yesterday I went to check our mailbox and I got a lovely surprise - inside was a package from Amazon. I started to panic because I couldn't remember ordering any books in the last few weeks! So I opened it and inside was a gift wrapped book! So I tore into it and found:

A copy of Jamie Olivers latest book 'Jamie At Home' based on his series where he grows his own vegetables and then cooks straight from the garden!

Inside was a gift card that read: 'Thank you for having me to stay - lots of love Mum xxx'

Thank you Mum - I love it! Its got a real old fashioned feel to it with its fabric cover! I haven't had much of a chance to read it but have had several flicks through - the book is dedicated to Steve Irwin and his family which I think is wonderful! There are some amazing recipes inside and each section has a part about how he grows the different vegetables used in the recipes :)

It was a wonderful surprise and really made my WEEK :) Thank you!

I phoned Mom this morning and thanked her and also got to say hello to my Uncle Bernard and his wife Louise (you may remember they recently had a baby) - I congratulated them both and Uncle Bernard said 'yes, not bad for an old man huh?' Louise sounds as though she is enjoying being a Mom!

And down it comes....

Finally the whole thing came down :) it already looks so much better - the bin arrived yesterday and is already full and I will take come pictures later of how it looks now - so much space - such a better view - so much tidier! Next we have to clear all the garbage etc and then Lloyd will smash up the concrete pad and we are going to gravel it as part of the extended driveway - there will be a new garage doow into Lloyds workshop on that end next year :)

All fall down.....

Lloyd and Parker pulled the barn down this week....firstly they removed the roof, then using the quad and my truck, they pulled off two corners and then the end....and then with my truck they pulled the whole thing down :)

All was well.....

In the afternoon we walked down the road to meet the children from the bus and get pictures of Abigail getting off the bus after her first full day of school. As you can see, she was all smiles!!!

Abigail will now got to school all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She happily went off on her own yesterday morning and got on the bus with no problems - and had yet another great day at school :)

Not as smooth as we thought......

Abigail was sooooo excited to go to school and ride the yellow bus! But when the bus arrived and it was time to actually climb on board, she changed her mind!!! She took one step on...turned and ran to me! So I had to go with her and walk her up the steps onto the bbus - then the door closed and off the bus went with my little girl on board!!!

Abigail starts school....

Abigail started kindergarten on Tuesday. She caught the bus with Christopher and Susannah (Laurence cycled that day). Lloyd and I walked down to wave them off and get some pictures of Abigail getting on the bus!
